Naturemorte

My final project at Shenkar College, “Naturemorte” was guided by Dekel Bobrov and Hila Shantieli, 2019.

The project visualises my experience of immigration from Russia and assimilation in Israel as a child.
Drawing inspiration from classical still life paintings and the symbolism behind every object (for instance - fish and bread represent jesus, a feather represents hope and freedom), I created a series of five still life photographs.
Each scene focuses on one meal and combines elements from my life with the collective “aliyah” experience. It my art direction I wanted to create a gradient of colours from a dark but classically Russian setting to a light pastel pink, the last scene is a “futuristic” and more personal representation of who I am today that casts a pink hue on the future.
